Ya know, that tears it!! (Ugly Building Battle Edition)

Res Ipsa has now raised the hackles of my downy midwestern pelt. New York City may be the greatest city in the world, it could certainly kick just about any town's ass in a fight.

But it cannot win every damn contest, every damn time (though the building is admittedly a contender).

How dare you insult not just North Korea, but even my own town.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there have been many ugly monstrosities built in these 50 United States, but none eclipses the famous "jewel" that was the former EDS building at 10th & Mulberry Street in Des Moines, Iowa.

Champollion I'm sure will back me up on this. Since rehabbed and stripped bare, then converted into condominiums which look decent -- for most of its existence, the EDS building looked liked this:

Big, fugly, and puke green!

The sides of the building looked like, I kid you not, they were sided with the small pale-green bathroom tile that any self-respecting bulimic would choose over their fingers to induce vomiting. People contemplating suicide used to visit, just to help make up their minds. Stalin-era architects used to see it and say it was homely and depressing.

There has never, NEVER been an uglier building in America.
