But, but, "both sides do it"

Uh, not quite on the same scale.

If you are a Democrat and in your mid-50s or older you saw...

John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr. shot to death.

And the Republicans in this country turning the 2nd Amendment into a farce by making people afraid of the people that followed people that were...well, shot...so they need all the handguns they want to stem the fear.

So naturally...

Tucson Tea Party Leader: We Won't Change Our Rhetoric After Giffords Shooting

Because self-censoring yourself from being crude, abusive, and inflammatory language is somehow a loss of your First Amendment rights.

Their goal isn't just to keep their guns, it is to continue to be un-shunned for proclaiming they love their fucking guns more than they love people or well, anything.

The not-so-subtle message from the Tea Party Leader: "Now you better really be afraid to speak against us because what happened to Gabby can happen to you."

Governance by intimidation.

We're in for a looooong two years

Digby offers this list as a counter to the "both sides do it" meme. There simply are no comparable examples on the left.

Miller said she knows the members of her tea party, who she called "reasonable individuals" closer to her age of 55 than the suspected shooter's 22. She said she's never seen the suspect at an event.

That's about the age of the Freeper accomplice. Bet he's a Pima County Tea Party Patriot.

Why should Kyl, the teapartiers and corporate masters change their methods? The crosshair thingy has worked to kill several courageous doctors, including George Tiller, now democrats who support Obama and health care?
Hey, why fix the system if it works and they have control in Congress?
On the other hand...if they want a fight, let's take it to them! vox

Umm, the accomplice is said by police to be a cab driver who went into the store with Loughner because he didn't have enough change for the bill tendered by Loughner, and wanted to make sure he wasn't going to get stiffed for the fare.

But, fuck Miller. It doesn't matter if Loughner never attended one of her events--the tea partiers and their rhetoric have been getting lots and lots of national and local media exposure, as have their rather prominent displays of incendiary talk, veiled threats and their far-too-casual attitudes toward guns in public places.

Nor can she deny that all that is very attractive to the far-right wingnuts that inhabit this country.

Attaturk certainly does have a penchant for massive understatement!

" In the 20th century, more than 100 million people were murdered by leftists. " The lesson of the 20th century is that boring bourgeois conservatives are not the mass killers - starry-eyed idealists are. "

And as for Americans there were plenty of leftist murderers of recent.
Theodore Kaczynski,
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold,
John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, Virginia Tech mass murderer Seung-Hui Cho and Fort Hood murderer Nidal Malik Hasan spring immediately to mind.

This latest attempt to spin Jared Lee Loughner as a tea party type conservative might eventually backfire on leftist media. Even though his target was Democratic Party Rep. Gabrielle Giffords there does appear to be some evidence that Loughner is/was a leftist.
