LVI

Well, my state has its fifty-sixth governor.

I'm going into this administration with absolutely no expectations. Our last three governors haven't exactly distinguished themselves. As an equally distinguished politician once said, "There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me, you can’t get fooled again.”

It brings tears to my eyes when I ponder the words of this great political philosopher. Really. Tears.

Good luck with the new Gov.

The last part of that infamous Bush flub is often misquoted:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee--I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee--that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you. A fool me can't get fooled again."

I wonder if it's because people subconsciously try to bring more sense to the last clause than he was able to muster himself.

As a fellow Noo Yawker, Res, I, too, have no expectations. I continue to call for secession of NYC from NYS. But it'll never happen.
